More than 160 Years of Glashütte Watchmaking Tradition
Preserving Cultural Heritage - Promoting the Fine Art of Watchmaking - Passing on Knowledge.
The cultivation of Glashütte’s heritage, the promotion of the arts, culture, and
specialized science and research associated with the fine art of watchmaking: these are the
cornerstones of the foundation’s endeavors.
Through the use of the museum, an exhibition work area, a specialist technical library, an
extensive archive as well as various other projects and activities, the foundation ensures
that its unique and unparalleled collection is maintained and will continue to be made available
to the general public.
The goal of the founders is to pass on the watchmaking traditions and knowledge to the next
generation of artisans, to maintain this unique cultural heritage and to promote and strengthen
the location of Glashütte.
With as many business and political initiatives as possible, the foundation aims to win friends
and promoters of the German watchmaking craft and, last but not least, the enterprises of the
region. To this end the founders attach considerable significance to maintaining the museum as
the locus and zenith of the German watchmaking craft, both at home and abroad.
The basis for an international network is laid out and made financially viable via the foundation,
which aims to bring together craftsmen, businesses, collectors, restorers, scientists and
apprentices, academic institutions and schools, as well as all interested persons.
